Review: Fucking Sculptures Corkscrew

pennysblog_fscorkscrew

Y’all know I love photographing sex toys. And the Corkscrew, with its spacey, twisted design and gorgeously crafted black glass, appeals to the photo nerd in me. But I can’t orgasm from looking through my viewfinder, so let’s talk about how it feels.

Fucking Sculptures makes a variety of gorgeous soda-lime glass dildos like the medium Corkscrew I was sent to review. Since they’re handmade, each FS toy has slight variations, notably in size, and although mine is labeled a medium, I’d call it a small–its girth is about 1.4″ at the widest point, (and it quickly tapers down to about 1″), and it has less than 5 insertable inches since you have to grasp its tip to thrust. Size isn’t everything, but the medium Corkscrew is definitely smaller than I’d prefer, and I was skeptical that I’d enjoy it.

pennysblog_fscorckscrew2I was right. This note from my masturbation journal sums up my experience: it’s so pretty, I wish I liked it more.

The Corkscrew has a nice curve, and pushing down on its handle pushes its head up against my g-spot–but it doesn’t have much weight or girth, so it lacks any intensity, and since it’s small and super smooth, I don’t notice its pretty texture.

Just because a toy is small doesn’t mean it can’t pack a punch, but this dildo doesn’t. The Slow Drive is similar size-wise, but unlike the Corkscrew it can quickly induce squirty feels1. I’m also cool with toys that don’t provide a lot of direct g-spot stimulation if they offer other unique sensations, like the Crystal Twist, but the Corkscrew just feels lackluster.

For a dildo to impress me, it needs to have more than looks. It needs to have some girth, a bulbous head, a good g-spot curve, memorable texture, or some combination of the above. I don’t expect every toy to absolutely wow me, but it’s like the Corkscrew isn’t even trying. If it disappeared from my collection, the photographer in me would be sad, but my vagina would be indifferent.

If you’re looking for a small glass dildo that glides smoothly and provides light stimulation, you might enjoy the Corkscrew. But I’d gladly trade mine for a g-spoon–I tried Aerie’s last year at dildo holiday and liked it, though the memory is hazy now2. I’d also love to try the Double Trouble since my friend Girly Juice raves about it.

Thanks Fucking Sculptures for sending me the Corkscrew to review!

  1. not to mention it’s way cheaper

  2. come back to me g-spoon…

Review: Lovehoney Sensual Glass Plug

Lovehoney Sensual Glass Plug

Lovehoney Sensual Glass Plug

I thought I’d have no problem getting the Lovehoney Sensual Glass Plug in–with 3 insertable inches, it’s shorter than other things I’ve put in my butt, and although its 5.75″ circumference is a step up from the 5.25″ of the Ryder1, an extra half an inch didn’t seem like a huge deal. Boy was I wrong.

The Sensual Glass Plug is easy enough to insert at first, with a smooth, tapered tip…until I get to the widest part. Since the plug doesn’t taper back down like a lot of others do, my butt won’t suck it in, and it just floats there like a buoy. If Jake is around, I ask “IS IT IN?” and he says “yea…pretty much!” encouragingly. Except pretty much means it isn’t actually in, and it bobs right back out with a simple squeeze of my PC muscles or a shift to grab more lube.

Every time I tried to push the plug in past that point, the glass jabbed at my ass painfully. Still, I persevered.

I had faith in the power of my butt.

Ryder, Romp, Sensual Glass Plug, Atomic Rose Plug, Bootie

I tried warming up with smaller plugs. I tried Sassy2. I tried silicone. I tried mixing Sassy and silicone. I breathed deeply. I was one with my hole. I pampered my clit as I whispered sweet nothings to my butt. I tried warming up with cunnilingus and g-spot stimulation, and yet, I still couldn’t get it in.

I was about ready to give up and accept my butt hole failure, when I decided to try one last time. And when I used Bootie, Romp, baby Jesus, and Ryder, and it still wouldn’t go in, I got the idea of trying something else glass in my butt to get it used to the hardness. I grabbed my Icicles No. 21, put a condom over it, and used it to thrust gently until I felt Ready For The Plug.

And then something miraculous happened…I did it! The pride I felt in my butt was overwhelming. This must be what motherhood feels like, I thought. I immediately texted at least 3 friends: IT’S IN!!!

I finally warmed up my butt enough that the widest point didn’t hurt, and my butt sucked up that plug like a glass of sweet lemonade. And once it was in, it stayed in securely and felt delicious upon removal, especially since I synchronized it with an Eros orgasm.

Still, I can’t wear the Sensual Glass Plug around like I would others since I’m afraid it will hurt to take out if I leave it in too long. I also can’t use it during partner sex or with dildos because its hard glass fills me up, and I can barely get a finger in my vag when it’s in much less a penis.

And since anal thrusting actually warms me up for the plug and not vice versa, I probably won’t use it much unless I decide I want to move on to conquering even larger butt toys. Who knows, maybe someday this plug will seem like a tiny bloop on my ass’s radar. But until then, it has limited use for me.

All the toys it took to get it in

The moral of the story here is that the Sensual Glass Plug is definitely not a beginner’s plug…and I’d hesitate to even call it an Intermediate plug. It doesn’t look that big, but because of its hardness and shape, it can be quite difficult to insert and can potentially cause a lot of pain.

But if you’re an Intermediate/Advanced anal player, the Lovehoney Sensual Glass plug is a great deal at only $30 for a high quality Pyrex plug, and since its base portion has some girth, it can be used to warm up the sphincter for larger toys. Since it’s glass it’s non-porous and hygienic, and you can use any type of lube with it. It also comes with a purple velvet drawstring storage bag.

Just beware– if your butt isn’t ready, the Sensual Glass Plug will quite literally be a pain in your ass.

*Thanks Lovehoney!

Review: Crystal Twist

pennysblog_crystaltwist1The Crystal Twist, a spiral shaped dildo made of strong borosilicate glass with a sparkly Swarovski crystal in its base, is absolutely gorgeous. The Twist I have is the new version, which features an updated corkscrew design and color highlights that match the crystal– mine is cobalt blue/Heliotrope.

The Crystal Twist provides g-spot stimulation that feels completely different from any other toy I’ve tried, and that’s what I love about it. Although I was skeptical of how the design would work in use, somehow Crystal Delights made a toy that screws in just right. Its small tip makes it easy to insert, and as I twist it in, it rubs my g-spot. Once it’s in, it feels amazing to twist it back and forth quickly as well as in and out, and although it’s not meant for thrusting, I like to squeeze around it and tug on it gently as well.

The toy looks pretty intense, but to me it’s not—it’s just the right size (5″ insertable length & 1.5 width at its widest point), and the twist feels smooth and pleasurable but not overwhelming. I don’t need to warm up with another toy to use it (just a dab of Sliquid), and Jake can use it on me easily, as opposed to say the Pure Wand, which I love using on myself but don’t like him using on me since it’s so heavy and even painful if not angled how I like it.

Since it’s hand-crafted by Crystal Delights, aesthetic is also a big part of the appeal of this toy. Forget the vagazzle crap—why put rhinestones on your mound when you can have a Swarovski crystal sparkling between your legs…(not to mention, orgasms)?

The only issue I can think of with the Crystal Twist is its short length and base. It’s easy enough for me to twist it when it’s in, but for people who prefer longer handles for easy thrusting (or in this case, twisting), the base might not be sufficient. If this is the case, I would recommend the Spartacus MMXII Glass ‘Torch’ (something I’d like to try as well), which features a longer, double ended design with a Twist on one side and a beaded shaft on the other.

The Crystal Twist comes with a handmade protective pouch that wraps around the toy to protect it during storage and travel, and it features a tag with the name of the person who inspected it for quality before shipping.

pennysblog_crystaltwist2Although I recommend being very careful with your Crystal Twist or other Crystal Delights toy (because why risk damaging something so beautiful?) I must admit that while I was photographing my twist, in an absent minded moment it rolled off of a table that was about 2 & ½ feet high, and my Twist was completely unharmed—not a scratch or ding at all. Crystal Delights truly makes strong, sturdy glass toys, though they should be treated gently.

Generally, borosilicate glass toys can be cleaned by boiling or in the dishwasher, but since that could affect the embedded crystal, Crystal Delights toys should instead only be cleaned with soap and water, rubbing alcohol, or a 10% bleach solution. I use soap and water as well as an old toothbrush to get in the crevices around the crystal.

I love my Crystal Twist—it feels incredible, it’s handcrafted in the US from strong borosilicate glass, and it’s one of the most beautiful toys I’ve ever seen. I definitely recommend it if you’re looking for something with unique g-spot stimulation, if you love artistic, hand-crafted toys, or if you simply want to try something different. And if vaginal twisting isn’t your thing, Crystal Delights makes all kinds of other lovely goodies, like crystal butt plugs, straight crystal dildos, and the toy I’m coveting most right now, the pony tail plug.

*I won my Crystal Twist in an erotic photo competition & was not obligated to review it…but I wanted to share its awesomeness!

Review: Icicles No. 21

pennysblog_20130302_2705The Icicles No. 21 is a 8.5×1.25” glass dildo with a phallic head, a long, slightly curved shaft with flower detail, and a flared based. I chose the No. 21 to review for Pipedream with Toy Tuesday as well as my g-spot in mind, since glass is fun to photograph, and I saw potential in its pronounced head.

While I knew ahead of time that the No. 21 would probably feel pretty intense, I didn’t realize how intense. This is one of those toys that definitely requires a good amount of foreplay and lube to work for me, and I almost wanted to give up on it after the not so pleasant “pop” feeling the first time I inserted its hard, bulbous head. After I got used to it though, I discovered that the No. 21 does feel pretty amazing– when I get it at the right angle.

Stimulating my g-spot isn’t the only requirement I have for what I consider a successful dildo though— ease of use is equally important, and that’s where this toy is lacking.  Since I only need to insert it until right where the curve starts, I have to hold it on its shaft rather than on its base, which would be much easier to grip and handle. If it had more of a curved “C” shape, it probably wouldn’t feel too long since the handle would be curved towards me, but since it straightens out after the slight curve, it’s hard to hold. After a while my arm gets tired trying to keep the right angle and pressure, and I find myself craving the ease of stimulation that is the Pure Wand.

In hopes that I could enjoy the 21 without my arm getting tired, I had Jake try it on me with even less success. I definitely prefer using toys on myself in general, but since this one has such an intense head and also requires very specific angling to hit my g-spot, it was pretty much impossible to enjoy this way. Since the No. 21 has a flared base, it can be used safely for anal or strap on play, but I have no desire to use it for either and see it being potentially painful if misused.

Although it is a lovely toy, and I like the way the bulbous head feels on my g-spot when I can get it in the right position, I don’t recommend the No. 21 since its shape and length make it hard to hold for long masturbation sessions.  I’m also annoyed by its lack of a real protective storage case. If you’re going to sell delicate glass sex toys, you should include some kind of cover or case, not just a Styrofoam insert.

Like all glass toys, the Icicles No. 21 is hygienic, non-porous, and can be easily cleaned with soap and water or by running it through the dishwasher (on the top shelf with no soap or detergent.) Glass is also a good material for sensation play since it holds temperature well. To do this safely, place it in either warm or cold water for a few minutes (don’t put it in the freezer.)

Review: Crystal Delights Atomic Rose Plug

Update 12/18/2014: Crystal Delights doesn’t make the Atomic Rose Plug anymore, but they still make other similar plugs.

When I found out I won a Crystal Delights Atomic Rose Plug through Dangerous Lilly’s contest, I was beyond excited. Not only was it my first glass butt plug, but it was also a beautiful, handmade, clear pink glass plug complete with a vintage rose medallion from the Czech Republic (fancy, huh?)  I’m part Czech, so that only added to my feeling that it was meant to be mine, and I couldn’t wait to get the plug in the mail and wear it.

The Atomic Rose Plug came delicately wrapped in its protective black storage bag and was just as lovely as I expected. The website says it’s about 4” long, with 3.5 insertable inches and a 1.3” bulb, but mine is a little smaller (about 3.25” long/ 1.2” bulb,) which didn’t surprise me since I knew that Crystal Delights toys are hand blown and have slight variances.

My Atomic Rose Plug has had plenty of air time (figuratively speaking) since I received it; sometimes I wear it simply so Jake can admire its beauty in my ass, or while masturbating with a mirror so I can admire it myself, or as a warm-up for anal sex. It’s small enough for me to use comfortably and easily, but it’s still big enough that I can enjoy the sensation of inserting it and a feeling of fullness while I wear it. It stays in place well, and even though it moves outward when I orgasm, it hasn’t fallen out.

I love my Atomic Rose Plug as a pretty plug for play, and it works perfectly for that. What it doesn’t work as well for is casual wear, since it protrudes out of me quite obviously, and I can feel its circular base between my cheeks. I’ve tried to walk around with it in, and it’s cumbersome, although it’s actually not bad to sit in (on a soft surface,) but I don’t do it often. Still, that doesn’t really bother me as I love the toy for what is it—a high quality glass plug and luxurious anal accessory.

One advantage to glass toys is that you can use either water based or silicone lube with them, and I’ve tried it with both and like it either way. I’ve found that I don’t need a lot of lube with it since it’s so smooth and fairly small. Glass toys are also ideal for sensation play since they hold temperature well, although they should always be cooled and heated gradually with water to avoid harming the material.

Glass is non-porous, hygienic, and easy to clean, and I usually just wash it with antibacterial soap and water. The medallion portion does have texture and a grove around it, but it’s still easily cleaned with an old toothbrush. Since it’s glass, I do have to wash it more carefully than some of my other toys to avoid damaging it. It’s made of sturdy Pyrex, but it could still chip against the wrong material, which would ruin it and be a tragic waste (although if that ever happened I would probably display it somewhere as artwork.)

If you’re looking for a small, stunning piece of butt bling, I definitely recommend the Atomic Rose Plug or another Crystal Delights plug. If you need another reason to buy this toy (besides its general swankiness,) it’s also one of their various Colors Against Cancer toys. I hope to add some other Crystal Delights toys to my collection soon, specifically one of their original Swarovski Crystal Plugs, one of their Mini Twist Plugs, one of their Glass Dildos… okay who are we kidding, I want to try them all. If you decide you want one, please buy one through my link and help me save up for my next; I appreciate it!
